The school has been running a chess club for the last 16 years. We host a knock out competition in the Autumn Term, where the winner receives a trophy with their name on which was donated by one of our Governors – Mr T.C. Davies.
A most improved player trophy has also been awarded over the last ten years to the player who has made the biggest improvement in chess. The club has been involved in the British Land UK Chess Challenge for many years where 30 players in the school play 7 games of chess over a period of 7 weeks to find a winner.
The school has entered a team in the Castell Nedd Primary Schools Chess Championship for many years where we have won the team trophy three times – 2003-04, 2007-08 and 2009-10.
The organiser of the club is Mr C Jones. The club now meets on a Tuesday lunch time from 12.20 – 12.50 in the Junior library.
